FIRST Lego League Jr.: 

FIRST® LEGO® League Jr. captures young children’s curiosity and directs it toward discovering the wonders of science and technology.  FIRST LEGO League Jr. is a noncompetitive, hands-on STEM program for children ages 6 to 10. The program was created through a partnership between FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) and the LEGO® Group.

 Robotics Teams for Grandville 2nd and 3rd Graders

The Grandville robotics program is excited to offer Lego League Jr. for students in 2nd and 3rd grade.  This year, students from each Grandville elementary school are invited to take part in the “Boomtown Build” challenge.

Our FLL Jr teams are fun!  Students will work together to:

  • Teams will explore the growing needs and challenges of the people in our community
  • Teams will help to imagine and create a building that solves a problem   and makes life easier, happier, or more connected for the people that use it.
  • Build a model that has a robotic component made of LEGO® elements.
  • Create a Show Me Poster to represent their findings.
  • Share what they have learned at a Showcase to be held at Grandville High School, the afternoon of Saturday, November 23.

If your 2nd or 3rd grade student would like to learn, build and program with Legos, here are the details:

All Grandville Lego League Jr. teams meet at the Grandville Robotics & Engineering Center (4900 Canal, at the intersection of Canal and Jacob street)

Session one – 4:30pm – 5:45pm

Session two – 6:30pm – 7:45pm

Meeting Dates:  10/2, 10/9, 10/16, 10/23, 11/6, 11/13, 11/20 and the Expo will be on Saturday, November 23.

A parent is required to accompany each student who participates.  The program will be run by adults and high school mentors from the Grandville High School RoboDawgs and team members’ parents.  Other than the cost of a team t-shirt, there is no cost to participate in this program.

To simplify the registration process, parents of students who are interested in being a part of a Lego League Jr. team will need to register online by September 21 at   http://bit.ly/GVFLLJr

  • Build and program a model that moves using LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0
  • Document their work in individual Engineering Notebooks and present their team research journey in a collaborative Show Me poster
